We've all seen them on the search engines before. Websites with tens, seemingly hundreds of keywords stacked in their META title tags, META keyword tags, and META description tags. They are normally not spaced and separated only by commas, and are an example of the lowest quality of META Tag optimization available. If there's one thing we are sure of, it's that those keyword-stacking websites' days are numbered!

META Tags are HTML elements on each page of a website that provide information about each individual page so that search engines can categorize them correctly. Because they are inserted in a page's header, these META tags are not visible to the average Internet surfer, and are intended only for spider usage. Unfortunately, due to years META tag manipulation and keyword stacking, most major search engines don't measure META tags with the same importance as they once did.

Nonetheless, having neat, clean and concise META tags is still important for websites today, especially for smaller and less-manipulated search engines. Web River Group's META Tag services revolve around being as specific as possible, and making sure the search engines apply no more than two or three related keywords to any given page.

Unlike many SEOs that simply pick a handful of targeted keywords, stack them in a page's content and META tags, and hope for the best, we take greater care in making sure each page on your website has perfect META tags. We base our META tag population on the page's content, and make sure all tags have 100% relevancy to the content on the page.

If you'd like to take a stab at creating your own META tags, please follow some of the free guidelines below and contact us if we can assist you in any way.

Recommended META Tags:

  1. Title - The title META tag looks like this: <title>Your Website Title</title>. This tag should go right beneath the <head> tag on your web page.

  2. Description - The description META tag looks like this: <meta name="description" content="your website description">. This tag should go right after the title tag on your web page.

  3. Keywords - The keywords META tag looks like this: <meta name="keywords" content="your website keywords">. This tag should go right after the description tag on your web page.

  4. Robots - The robots META tag looks like this: <meta name="robots" content="index, follow">. This tag lets the search engines know that they should index that page, and follow the links it points to.
